Blackberries

A new day in cane fruit has arrived and our thornless blackberries represent the finest blackberry fruit ever produced along with hardy, trouble free plants.  Well, trouble free as much as blackberries can be trouble free.  These vigorous plants require training in a trellis of some sort in order to keep them off the ground.  Canes as tall as a person are common in a single season.  All canes must then be removed each year and disposed of by burning or removing from the site, creating an additional task.

Aside from these annual chores these are extremely rewarding plants.  Each year you will be rewarded with a bounty of large (an inch or more in height is common) sweet berries, as much as 30 pounds per bush in the case of Triple Crown which also is outstanding in taste and fruit quality.  The amount you receive will, of course, depend on the quality of the soil which they are planted in and the care which you give them.

ARAPAHO has large, glossy conical shaped fruit which is quite firm and ripens about 11 days earlier than Navaho. 6-8' canes are self-supporting, thornless and erect with the ability to establish a fruit quickly. Disease resistant variety flowers similar to Navaho. USDA plant zones 5-7. Early Season.

NAVAHO an erect growing, self-fertile , thornless variety with an attractive glossy black finish to its high-quality fruit . Our best berry for freezing and preserving. Plant has showy white star shaped fragrant flowers on canes that are 6-8' . Canes should be topped at shoulder height twice during the season. Tasty fruit ripens over a 6 week period. USDA plant zones 5-7. Mid-Season.

TRIPLE CROWN is an early fruiting, self-pollinating, thornless Mid-Season variety. The most well known of our modern varieties due to an article in Parade Magazine. It's large, flavorful fruit and outstanding vigor make it popular with growers. Winter hardiness is similar to CHESTER. Fruit is glossy black and large, flavor is excellent. This fine producer is a trailer so should be trellised. Zones 4-8. The "Godzilla Berry."

CHESTER is a highly productive thornless variety. Although it is very cold-hardy, it grows well in the South. Large, high-quality fruit are firm and keep well. Late Season Zones 4-8.
